"Smart" Surge Protector Debuts

Innovolt, a venture company started by Georgia Tech,  is launching a new surge protector at a press conference and reception on April 22 at Technology Square Research Center in Midtown. The protector helps you become more "green friendly" by monitoring and providing detailed reports on energy consumption. While most surge protectors are bought to shield against lightening strikes, Innovolt reports that less than one percent of damaged electronics come from lightening. Most come from actual surges on the power grid. Innovolt claims their product protects against this and offers a diagnostic function that shows just how many power fluctuations their are in your home. They sell for $75.
