Downtown Atlanta's Ellis Hotel is one of only two hotels in the state of Georgia to be honored with the national Green Seal, Silver Level. To celebrate this accomplishment the hotel will offer guests a special "Go Green, Go" program with special rates starting at $111 per night through June 30, 2009.
The National Green Seal program promotes environmental responsibility and energy-saving practices among businesses. To obtain this award, the Ellis Hotel adapted to a list of requirements, implementing such practices as timed lighting systems and the use of 30% post-consumer recycled content based paper products.
The hotel also gives back to the community through donations to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless. The Ellis Hotel's restaurant, Terrace, also supports local and regional farmers and producers by using locally-produced ingredients.
In addition, the Ellis has been listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Formerly the sight of the historic Winecoff Hotel (built in 1913), the 15-story hotel opened in October 2007 after a $28 million restoration. The hotel also recently received Atlanta's Downtown Design Excellence Award and Atlanta's Urban Design Commission Award for historic preservation.
