Green Fall Cleaning Tips

September means back to school, cooler weather and the dreaded fall clean-up. This year, go green instead of bright yellows, rich reds and russet that the season brings…with more environmentally friendly clean-up methods.

The experts at Perf Go Green, (www.perfgogreen.com) a new biodegradable plastics company whose first products are hitting grocery store shelves nationally this fall – just in time for the leaves to change - recommend the following tips for fall clean-up:

Know when to water - If the forecast says rain, there’s no need to use sprinklers. Instead, install a smart timer to reduce water usage based on weather conditions and soil moisture.

Ditch the blower and grab the broom – Not only do some blowers emit nasty pollutants, they can be noisy and irritable to neighbors and blown leaves can clog storm drains. Instead, sweep up the debris onto your driveway and bag it...and just think, it’s great exercise too!

Swap traditional plastic bags with biodegradable ones – For disposing of clippings, consider a biodegradable trash bag. Perf Go Green has just introduced a new durable oversized lawn and leaf bag that will let those clippings breathe in just 12-24 months at the landfill as opposed to hundreds of years like traditional plastics.

If you opt for no bag at all, start a compost - Compost dead leaves and wood to create healthy mulch in time for Spring.

Grab your grandfather’s garden tools - Self powered garden tools are both inexpensive and eco friendly. The push mower is even easy enough for the kids – you can get the whole family involved. It’s a perfect time of year to get outside and enjoy the weather.
