So You Want To Be A Master Gardener?

Central Fulton Master Gardener (CFMG),  is a volunteer organization of gardening enthusiasts who have completed the Master Gardener Program sponsored by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. All current volunteers completed the program and the required 50 hours of service in the first year to become Master Gardeners. Twenty five hours annually of community service is required in order to remain active in the program. Our community service projects include designated gardening, educational and extension office activities. The Central Fulton Master Gardeners welcome all those who are interested to join the team in their eco-friendly endeavors. For more information on the Master Gardener program in general, please visit www.hort.uga.edu/extension/mastergardener

There are local classes for the Master Garden Program held each year from January to March. The classes are held two mornings a week, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at the DeKalb Government Center on Memorial at 285 (subject to change) and include students from DeKalb, Fulton, Cobb, and Gwinnett Counties. Students are expected to attend all classes and pass a mid-term and final examination. The classes are taught by local extension office agents and faculty from the University of Georgia.

Applications for the program are available now and are due in mid–October. Applicants are interviewed in the fall and notified of the final class selection in November. We have a limited number of spaces available for our group. There is a program fee of approximately $ 120 for the classes and Master Gardener Handbook.

The Central Fulton Master Gardeners (CFMG) meets bi-monthly at the Piedmont Park Community Center for business and educational meetings. We also have workdays in our various community garden projects throughout the year. We strongly encourage active participation in our meetings and group projects. Together we can make a strong and visible impact within our community.

Most importantly we have fun together while gardening and sharing our knowledge and love of gardening. We hope that you will apply to the program. If you are interested in receiving an application in September, please send the Recruitment Coordinator, Marianne Scharbo-DeHaan your contact information including mailing address, email address and phone number to the address below.  Again thank you for your interest and the Central Fulton Master Gardeners (CFMG) look forward to meeting all interested parties.
