The public is invited to drop off any brand of used or unwanted electronics equipment for safe, proper recycling – for free – including old TVs, VCRs, telephones, computer products, etc. The first 2,000 participants will receive a free, environmentally-friendly cloth tote. The drop-off is Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Turner Field, 755 Hank Aaron Drive.
Up to 82 percent of the 2.25 million tons of old TVs, cell phones and computer products generated in the last two years ended up in landfills, According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This is a huge problem. By recycling old electronics products, useful materials such as glass, plastic and metals can be collected and re-used in the manufacture of other products.
Sony Electronics and Waste Management have taken a proactive approach to the growing problem of e-waste by launching the national Take Back Recycling program last fall. To help consumers recycle electronic devices safely, these industry leaders are picking up the tab in Atlanta for this event and ensuring that all components – up to 90% of many electronic items – are recycled properly. Since their partnership began, Sony Electronics and Waste Management have collected more than 11.1 million pounds of electronic waste.
