Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) and SoutheastGreen.com announced today that they will be hosting a Greening Your Facilities conference on March 20, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 308 Clairemont Avenue, Decatur, Ga., 30030. Doors will open at 9 a.m.
The conference is an opportunity for any and all congregational leadership to learn ways to make their facilities more energy efficient and sustainable. This is a non-denominational event; all faith practices are welcome. Lunch will be served, and the event costs $15 per person.
Speakers and topics include: Defining your baseline-What is your congregation's carbon footprint, Safe playgrounds and Alternative Energy Options, Energy Savings and Cooperative Energy Initiatives, and Missions with a Green and Sustainable Message. There will also be a presentation on a Solar Panel Case Study by Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation of
Atlanta, the first faith community to install solar panels in the Southeast.
"This is not only an exciting opportunity for congregations to take the next step in energy conservation and living green, but to save money.
